Dear GRASS GIS Community Members,

My name is Eric Hutton, and I am honored to accept the nomination for a seat on
the GRASS GIS Project Steering Committee. I am the Chief Software Architect of
the Community Surface Dynamics Modeling System (CSDMS), with over 20 years of
experience in writing and promoting open-source software for the Earth
Sciences. I have broad expertise in a range of programming languages—including
Python, C, C++, and Fortran—managing open-source projects, and in using Conda
and Jupyter for geoinformatics and modeling.

My contributions to GRASS GIS began in 2020 when I noticed that members of the
CSDMS community were having difficulty installing GRASS GIS, particularly those
using macOS. This led me to start creating a Conda package for GRASS, which
involved modifying GRASS's build processes to make the installation procedure
easier and more robust. These efforts were further developed by Michael Barton
and Nicklas Larsson, resulting in a seamless way to build and deploy GRASS
binaries for macOS.

I am passionate about open-source software and believe in its power to drive
innovation and collaboration. I have worked with the GRASS team to promote
GRASS GIS to students and professionals through recent clinics and workshops.

If elected to the PSC, I would like to focus on bringing the numerical modeling
community closer to the GRASS GIS community by:

* Creating Educational Resources: Developing tutorials, workshops, and
documentation to make GRASS GIS more accessible to numerical modelers. These
resources could be utilized in CSDMS roadshows and workshops.

* Integrating GRASS GIS with Numerical Models: Facilitating the integration of
GRASS GIS with software products from the broader Earth surface modeling
community, possibly utilizing interfaces such as the Basic Model Interface
(BMI) and plugins to exchange data between GRASS GIS and modeling frameworks.

* Streamlining the Build System: Continuing to improve the build system so that
GRASS GIS can be easily installed alongside numerical models that operate on
different platforms and environments.

I am committed to dedicating the necessary time and energy to support the PSC's
activities. I believe that through collective effort, we can advance GRASS GIS
to new heights and broaden its impact globally!

Thank you for considering my candidacy. I look forward to the opportunity to
serve and collaborate with all of you! Yay!

Best regards,
Eric Hutton
