I have the same problem. I installed GRASS 6.4.0-1 from the installer on the
website. A full install in "d:/GRASS" on a Win XP machine with both demo
datasets.
GRASS starts up fine and give me the welcome screen. I can select one of the
demo projects or create a new project. But when I click on Start GRASS then
I get an error: "execution failed: g.proj - p"
The sh window then displays the error below.

The strange thing is that the same installer gave a working GRASS version on
my laptop (Win XP Pro).

Does g.proj work ok from the command line though? If not, check if this
is not the same issue as in

No. Running g.proj from the command line gave a another error. "cannot find
ordinal 284 in SSLEAY32.dll"
I tried your suggestions in the other post, but that did not solve the
problem either.
