OK, think I have it now.

"Flocking continues to be an evocative example of emergence, where
complex global behavior can arise from the
interaction of simple local rules."

So generative design is 'more than just the sum of its parts' to put
it crudely..

Does anyone have this book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Control-Design-Parametric-Algorithmic-Architecture/dp/8496540790/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1236672639&sr=8-1

Just looking to expand my understanding of the fields of parametric-
generative & algorithmic design tools.
Any good sources of information would be of great help.
