Hi Consalo, I've had to trim the number of files 3 times already to prevent us exceeding the Google Groups limit. We are not happy with the current system, but haven't found anything worth the trouble of switching yet.
Files are mostly meant as attachments to posts, in which case the post in question will contain a link to the file.
