I can add a "Preview Selected" toggle somewhere which would work the
same as the Rhino ShadeSelected toggle.

Switching preview flags on and off for all selected objects can be
done through the Solution menu, using the Shortcut keys (Ctrl+Q and
Ctrl+Shift+Q) and I added 2 buttons to the canvas toolbar on the last
release (human head and human head with blindfold) which also does the
same.
