New Zealanders, FYI.

We have benefited tremendously from the international WikiEducator experience and teachers from New Zealand have also participated in our international Learning4Content workshops. Continuing the OER Foundation's commitment to open philanthropy, all our planning documentation and resources are developed openly in the wiki and hopefully some of our work will be of use for other countries to adapt and modify when establishing their own national OER collaborations. Today we published the first issue of OERNZ News --- a short 2-page newsletter which can be printed and distributed in the pigeon holes of teachers at local schools. Hopefuly this will help connect the "disconnected" -- teachers who have much to contribute to OER, but who may not regularly surf the online world. One way OERNZ can contribute back to the community (apart from releasing the Newsletter under an open license :-) ), is to provide the source files of the Newsletter in open editable formats. Therefore, if there are articles, content or ideas which other national initiatives would like to re-use --- they can easily be copied and reconfigured for re-use in other contexts. We have uploaded the OERNZ news files in the Scribus (.sla) format (an open source desktop publishing application -- see: http://www.scribus.net/ ). You will find a copy of the OERNZ News and links to the source files here: http://tinyurl.com/yafv9wx I look forward to seeing other national OER collaborations starting on WikiEducator. OER is not restricted to teaching materials -- we should also share the resources (like newsletters) we use to support and promote our projects. Gee -- you gotta love the open model!
