Theoretically yes, if you know what you're doing. I'd recommend using either Graylog (System / Indices) or the Elasticsearch Delete Index API ( https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/2.4/indices-delete-index.html) to delete old indices.
