I observed that when greasemonkey add-on is enabled, firefox bleeds
memory much faster than it usually does (and it does, we all know). I
isolated the problem as being related to the google reader's new
design. Without the google reader tab, the leak is just the usual
firefox leak. With the google reader tab open for a day, and reading/
switching between some feeds once in a while, firefox memory footprint
as reported by win xp's task manager grows to more than 1 GB. Not
surprisingly it becomes awfully slow to use. Restarting firefox
usually helps, but it is just a temporary solution.
I tried disabling greasemonkey and using the google reader, and the
memory leak wasn't there again. Google reader's previous interface
didn't have this problem either. I am pretty sure that the problem
lies with something google did, but let's face it, google's customer
service won't hear me.
Now the requested information:
Operating System: Windows XP-SP3
Firefox version: 8.0.1
Greasemonkey version: 0.9.13
Exactly which script, if any, is causing a problem?: Scripts are
not the main problem. I disabled all the scripts I have, and the
memory leak is still there (albeit at a somewhat reduced rate) if just
greasemonkey itself is enabled.
Exactly which page, if any, is exhibiting this problem:
https://www.google.com/reader/ (google reader requires a google
account, but if you are reading this message on google groups, you
probably have one)
