You can detect the first time they're running a new version (by having a script version ID and comparing it to one stored in a GM cookie), but you can't detect that they've followed that particular sequence of events. They can cancel out of installing the script when the confirm dialog comes up, and that's completely outside the control of your script.

Well... Of course I know what was done before. The page was just loaded! :) And it is under control of my script. :)

Also the user is prompted if he wants to update or not.

I just need a way to find out if the user really installed it or not.
