greasemonkey has completely stopped working for me on ubuntu 12.10 with 
firefox 17 and greasemonkey 1.5 so perhaps you are just suffering from the 
same problem?

I'm not sure, but I think it was a very recent ubuntu update of firefox 
that broke it for me :(
