Solidarity in Tourism THE FOUNDATION SST SUPPORTS organisations, projects and initiatives that pursue sustainable tourism development. Through its contributions, the Foundation SST helps to secure the livelihoods of the population in tourist destinations, to improve their economic conditions and to protect the environment. It also helps to promote initiatives and new ideas for a balanced cultural exchange between tourists and locals. The Foundation THE FOUNDATION SST was founded in 2001 by SSR Travel, Swiss Student Travel Office (cooperative), Zurich. Since its foundation in 1962, the cooperative SSR Travel became one of the leading tour operators in Switzerland. After a period of business difficulties, the General Assembly decided in 1998 to sell the travel business to the STA Travel Group, London. Before being closed down, the cooperative contributed a large part of its assets as capital to the Foundation SST. With this capital, the Foundation was entrusted with the long-term task of continuing the work towards the idealistic aims of the cooperative SSR Travel.
