Press Releases Fri Oct 1 2004 'Unravelling the Uluru Axis' ACT Greens Action Plan for Tourism >From the National Museum to Uriarra: Following the Bogong Track; The Lower Molonglo Cultural Heritage, Environmental and Educational Walking Trail and Riverine Woodland Corridor Graham Jensen, ACT Greens candidate for Brindabella, as part of the Greens Action Plan for Tourism, today launched a proposal for a Lower Molonglo Cultural Heritage, Environmental and Educational Walking Trail, and Riverine Corridor. "I am delighted today to be recognising our aboriginal heritage by launching a trail which will follow the general direction that the Ngunnawal People would have taken to Urayarra (Uriarra) to catch Bogong Moths," Mr Jensen said. "Based on a community consultation process, the Greens proposal will give indigenous, community, government, and various other interest groups the opportunity to work together, once again making the Lower Molonglo into a place of significance. "The Greens will move in the next Assembly to initiate the development of this Track as a major eco-tourist attraction. It conforms to the desire expressed in the Canberra Spatial Plan that the Lower Molonglo River Valley be given the status of a Wildlife Corridor and a Nature Conservation Area" "As part of the Greens Tourism Action Plan the ACT Greens will require all major tourism projects to be assessed against a triple bottom line which considers economic, social and environmental impacts and outcomes. "The ACT has many natural attractions which could allow us, with the right kind of planning and care to become a centre Eco-tourism conforming to international standards of excellence. One example of this is the Pedal Power proposal for a Monaro Rail Trail from Hume to Williamsdale which the Greens support. "The ACT Greens are convinced that the eco-tourism approach to the development of Canberra's natural attractions will yield many benefits for the people of Canberra in terms of additional employment and recreation opportunities," Mr Jensen said.
