An all India fact finding committee comprising representatives of various people's organisation has said that there was a nexus between the Andhra Pradesh Police and the cobra organisations or private armed gangs involved in the attack on human rights activists in the State.

The 10 member-team with representatives from Punjab, Maharashtra, Bihar, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh visited the three districts of Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar and Prakasham. Sharing the findings of the committee with the media, A Rahul of Indian Association of People's Voice from Tamil Nadu demanded a judicial probe into the killing of three persons by the Cobras and death threat to 72 other activists.

Strongly condemning the attitude of the director general of police Swaranjit Sen on this issue, he said that the DGP was completely unserious about taking action against these organisation. "This itself shows that the nexus between the cobras and the police," he said.

Raj Kishore, the generally secretary of Revolutionary Democratic Forum said that Andhra Pradesh was the only State where such a large number of people were receiving death threats through newspapers.

"We met Chief Minster YS Rajasekhara Reddy and he assured us that the Government will take stringent action against these organisations. But when we visited Ongole, a group of 50 persons clad in Burqa heckled us at the behest of the police," he said. Holding the Prakasham district superintendent of police Balasubrahmjanyam responsible for the incident, he demanded action against him.

"No other state has such a serious situation as Andhra Pradesh. These cobras are threatening to kill 12 most prominent human rights activists to suppress their voices," he said.
