Dear Prakash,

Pointing a link does not means that it is my position. I thought There are
some debatable points in the editorial.

I am heartily supporting this ban. I will before happy if the ban is in
the name of coke's and Pepsi's theft of water & destroyal of lives &
livelihoods in plachimada & kanjikkodu.  But it must not be a safe play to
escape from proper compensation for the people in plachimada.

But it is not possible for the CPIM. because they are going to start the
water park in Kanpur. I am congratulating the Govt for the current ban.
But I am not much happy because whole issue of Right to water is minimized
into Quality of Soft drink.

4 years of plachimada struggle raised awareness. But it must not be
reduced to quality of water. Still Govt need to address the Question of
plachimada. Because the Right to life & Right to water are not addressed
yet. Govt's decision only touches Urban spaces ( The Middle class crowd) .
It only addresses the health concerns of the consumer market. State still
needs to address the Communities who  lost their livelihoods by the
actions of these Corporate Giants.

If pesticides is the issue, Another major report about the pesticide
content soil is came out last month. see
http://movingrepublic.org/2006/07/plachimada-coca-cola-stores-toxic-for-future-generations/
. Endosulphan ban also needs to come along with it.The CSE report is on
the same Lab report page index page of Cokes. Just see the report
http://www.cseindia.org/html/endosulfan/endosulfan_index.htm

I am not against the ban & completely supports it. But only saying that
this is not the reason to end plachimada struggle. because The issue is
still unaddressed. The Govt still neglects the people in plachimada. It
only stands for the consumer market. all progressive faces are nothing
more than a political play.

Why I am saying this because I found a a column news on todays mathrubhumi
saying that plachimada samara samithi will conduct a meeting soon for
thinking about closing the struggle.

Thats all

Anivar
