Delhi police arrest Irom Sharmila

New Delhi: In a late night swoop on Friday, the Delhi police arrested human rights activist Irom Sharmila Chanu, who is on a hunger strike against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, from Jantar Mantar and took her to the All-India Institute for Medical Sciences for urgent medical treatment.
Many show solidarity to Sharmila's cause
Wakat Meephams (protest sessions) were held at different parts of the State today protesting against the alleged negligence of the Government of Manipur toward deteriorating health condition of Irom Chanu Sharmila who has been fasting for nearly six years now in pursuance of the demand for total removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
Khwairamband bandh today to show solidarity to Sharmila
In support of the demand to repeal Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 from Manipur completely and expressing solidarity to Irom Chanu Sharmila who is currently at New Delhi continuing her almost 6 years long fast unto death agitation over the same demand, all the market places and shops in Khwairamband Bazar area will remain closed tomorrow.
