Mantar

*Kindly circulate widely*

Dear friends and comrades,

After the successful people's convention against displacement (held at
Ambedkar Bhawan, New Delhi on 11th and 12th August), *dharna against
displacement *demanding a pro-people developent planning policy and
enactment will be held at *New Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Monday, the 13th
August at 11 am.*

Organised by Sangharsh 2007, the People's Convention was attended by more
than 400 people from across the country, representing about 80 people's
organisations, engaged in struggles against displacement. The Convention,
while condemning UPA Government's anti-people displacement policies
including SEZs and hundreds of so called developmental projects, has
demanded that the UPA government do justice to its election promise of 'no
displacement' and also bring in a people-friendly DEVELOPMENT POLICY in
place of the National Rehabilitation Policy which is nothing but a
justification for the ongoing displacement of millions of people. The
participants at the convention shared their respective movement experiences
about displacement ranging from rural (Project based), Urban 'evictions',
forest, militarisation caused, coastal, etc. SEZ affected people's
organisations also raised their issues.

We request all of you to join in the day-long Dharna at Jantar Mantar and
extend solidarity to the people's struggles against devastation and
displacement.

Sandhya Devi, Ajeet Jha, Rajendra Ravi, Arun Khote, Anil Choudhury, Manju
Gardia, Rakesh Rafique and others

"We hear that governance now will have a different cadence
Tyranny will now be the protector; cities will be without walls or doors
Innocence will now be a punishable crime
Judges will profess ignorance of criminal deeds...
Executioners will be in charge of funerals, killers will organize mourning...
If this be the realization of India's ancient dreams
Then soon, there will neither be India, nor any of its connoisseurs..."
