A day after President Ram Baran Yadav called on parties to form a consensus
government in a week's time, the largest party, Nepali Congress (NC)
intensified talks on government formation.

Leaders of both parties convened after the meeting of the
Legislative-Parliament on Monday morning at the same venue to discuss
government formation.

In the meeting, NC formally requested CPN-UML to extend its support to a
consensus government in its leadership. Leaders of CPN-UML have pledged to
work hand in hand with NC in the new government.

"We support NC's proposal for a consensus government," said UML leader
Bamdev Gautam. "A formal decision will be put forward by the party."

Both parties also agreed to complete the new constitution within a year.
However, CPN-UML continues to demand election for new president and
vice-president, contrary to NC's stance on the issue.

With CPN-UML on board, NC is expected to meet leaders of UCPN (Maoist) to
discuss issues of government formation.
