The demands of the fishermen include rejection of the Dr Syda Rao Committee Report, revocation of the 61-day fishing ban from June 1 and cancellation of the licences granted to foreign trawlers by the Central Government. The march was inaugurated by Kerala Fisheries Coordination Committee district chairman Pulluvila Stanley. He stated that fishermen will continue with fishing activities even after June 1, when the fishing ban comes into effect. Stanley said that nobody will be allowed to take away the rights of the fishermen and added that a march will be taken out in New Delhi to highlight their demands. Kerala Fisheries Co-ordination Committee convenor T Peter presided over the function. Fr Theodosius, V Dinakaran, M V Gangadharan Nadar, A Nagappan, Hudson Fernandez, Peter Sebastian, P P John, M Paul, C Lenin, Anto Elias and Panathura Babu spoke on the occasion.
