As far as I have understood, CP John is an honest, un- corrupt and intelligent politician. I met him first in the early eighties when he was an SFI leader in the Calicut university. We had some good political discussions at that time and I was extremely inspired to meet an intelligent, genuine leader of the students’ movement in Kerala, though I had nothing to do with SFI or CPI(M). Later, I heard that he had left CPI(M) and joined CMP, a political party which split from CPI(M) headed by comrade Raghavan who allied with Congress. During the last elections, CP John lost his MLA seat from Kunnankulam by a narrow margin. At that time also, I really felt that he deserved to be an MLA in Kerala. I had met him on a couple of occasions later also in public meetings when he was the part of Kerala State Planning Commission. Still, I had reasons to believe that he was a positive politician. But when Vizhinjam Transit Harbour was inaugurated by UDF Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, he put up a post on his face book timeline that this project was initiated by his leader comrade Raghavan, trying to project that it was an achievement of CMP. I responded that it was a great historical blunder, since Vizhinjam Transit Harbour would remove two hills from the western ghats, destroy several fishing villages and it is also an economic blunder. The project is the greatest planned disaster destroying ecology, livelihood of fisher people and economic independence of Keralites as a result of the charitable contribution of thousands of crores to Adani by the Congress in Kerala and the BJP Government at the centre. I reminded him on my note that if he needed more information on this historical blunder, I would be willing to supply. Now, I do not have access to his time line. Sometimes, I feel that honest, un- corrupt and intelligent politicians can be more dangerous than the stupid, corrupt and dishonest politicians, since intelligent politicians like CP John can politically justify even the greatest disasters confronting the lives of people of Kerala more effectively than the stupid politicians. I am also amused about the fact that even when many people within CPI(M) and KSSP are recognising the problems of such development, how come a splinter group leader like CP John can still defend a social, ecological and economic blunder like Vizhinnjam Transit Harbour project.
