Will hang those who dare to slaughter cows, says Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Saturday declared
that those who slaughter cows will be “hanged” as an increasing number
of states are mulling a crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses and a ban
on cow slaughter.

“Does such a thing happen in Chhattisgarh? I don't think it has
happened in the last 15 years (of BJP rule). Jo maarenge unko latka
denge (Will hang those who slaughter cows),” Raman Singh said when
asked whether the state is mulling a crackdown on cow slaughter.

Slaughter of cow, buffalo, bull, bullock, calf, and possession of
their meat is banned in Chhattisgarh. Transport, export to other
states for slaughter is also banned. These offences attract same
punishment of 7 years' jail and fine up to Rs 50,000.

AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday questioned the BJP and
claimed that it was "hypocrisy" that the BJP has banned cow slaughter
in Uttar Pradesh but no such step is likely to be taken in the North
East if they come to power there next year.

“Uttar Pradesh mein gaai mummy hai, aur North East mein yummy hai? (In
Uttar Pradesh, the cow is mummy, but in North East it is yummy?) What
is this if not hypocrisy on part of the BJP?” Owaisi questioned.

Soon after assuming office, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath had ordered strict enforcement of the ban on cow slaughter
and smuggling.

Slaughter of buffaloes for meat is, however, allowed in the state.
Buffalo meat trade in the state has been badly hit by the clampdown on
illegal abattoirs.
