A change.org campaign has been launched against the, apparently, malafide move of the state to incarcerate Dr Anand Teltumbde - scholar-author-democratic rights activist of some eminence, under the draconian UAPA, on, seemingly, cooked-up charges.
Being a person holding a high office in the academia and ready to cooperate with any police investigations, it makes just no sense to throw him behind the bars for an indefinite period, as it almost invariably happens in case of those booked under the said Act. It only serves the purpose of intimidating all, actual and potential, voices against the powers that be. Maybe also to build up a narrative that is expected to provide some advantage to the regime in the run-up to the forthcoming general election.
