In Maharashtra: BJP-NCP government. Even after the last assembly poll, which had produced a hung assembly with all the four major parties contesting separately, the NCP had offered to the BJP. That'd significantly bring down the Sena's bargaining power. Sharad Pawar meeting Modi was a strong hint.
The net outcome is that: I. The BJP retains control over this major state. II. The Sena takes a big hit. May turn out to be a sort of crisis situation in maintaining its hold over its functionaries. III. The relations between the two Hindutva parties get further damaged, making future alliances significantly more difficult. IV. The impact on "Marathi asmita" remains to be seen. V. The Congress also, at least for now, turns a poor loser. VI. The Congress has, however, the _opportunity_ to emerge as the sole claimant for "secular" votes. VII. The cause of "secularism" significantly suffers. VIII. Credibility of the NCP gets damaged. IX.
