I think the way to look at this would be to add a parameter to the gsp-default.tex for a minimum amount of space above the top line of the top chant staff, because if you add space below the title section itself, I don't think it would be possible to know whether there will already be space from elements that extend above the top line of the staff, such as a clef on the top line, a quarter bar, a neume containing a k, l, or m tone, or an episema that is above the top line of the clef.
