Dear Brother,
If I remember correctly, the reason for using texlua is that it knows
where the texmf directories are: under Windows you can install TeX under
any directory, so the installation script cannot know this directory,
that's why it calls texlua to do the job... But I'm not sure about that.
If you manage to tweak the installer to do everything fine, then it's
accomplished! Maybe there was a problem in the texlua call or something...
Tell me if you have time to do something, else I'll certainly do it in a
few month...
