LibreOffice (Draw) and Inkscape are able to open and modify pdf documents produced by Gregorio. Excuse me for answering that late, but I was in Madrid for the beatification of the blessed Alvaro del Portillo.

I had to copy the fonts greciliae.ttf, greextra.ttf, gregorio.ttf, gresym.ttf and parmesan.ttf into the fonts directory to make it work. I still have an issue with kpfonts for the lyrics, but perhaps it will not affect you.

Another idea is that maybe the CS4 suite is too old?
