Élie's answers are the same as my understanding of what's going on.
To clarify why we're not 100% on these issues though:
Neither of us is a native Widows user with a full suite of Windows
compilers. Compilation of the Windows executable is, therefore, not
done on a Windows machine. IIRC Élie's a native Linux user (Debian
distro, I think) and I have a Linux VM (Ubuntu distro) on my Mac (using
Parallels Desktop). The Windows executable is compiled in one of those
environments using mingw32. We then use InnoSetup (which is a Windows
program) to create the installer (Élie, I think, runs it under WINE,
while I run it on a Windows XP VM using Parallels).
Élie cannot, so far as I know, test in the Windows environment. I can,
since I have a full VM, but the majority of my development experience is
on a Mac, not Windows. As a result, my testing is somewhat rudimentary
and I probably miss things that a more experienced Windows developer
might catch. If you have some development experience on Windows, please
feel free to fork the git repository and look at the windows folder,
where the information related to the Windows installer lives.
