For those Windows users, I came across a really easy program called AX <http://vulpeculox.net/ax/> that will let you insert special characters without thinking. (I didn't write this application)

For example, in whatever text editor you use you can type /saculum/ (you don't need the e) and then put your cursor next to the *a* and push F9 and it will turn it into an *á* - push F9 again, it turns into an *æ* - again you get *ǽ*. (you can change the hotkey)

You can also easily insert the ℣ and ℟ by simply putting your cursor next to a *v* or *r* and pushing F9 (that's how I entered these characters in this email - which you can see if you are using html email with the right encoding...).

Here is my config file for AX <https://gist.github.com/BGMcoder/9f85cd08cf77c5392c48>, customized for Latin and Chant.

It is great for InDesign and even your code editor - but you need to be using a unicode font that has those characters already. /Lucida Sans Unicode/ is good for your code editor.

So, AX comes as an exe file, but you also get the ahk source if you want to play with the code for it.
