While I can't speak for Fr. Peron, I'm not a power user of lilypond-book and thus don't really know what that macro does. That makes it much harder to figure out how to implement any change that you could use. If you could describe the functionality provided by that macro, it would make it much easier to figure out if and how that need can be met.
