That error message is generated by LuaTeX, not GregorioTex. Thus, while it relates to one of our functions, we have no control over how the error message behaves.

Most often I see these error messages where there is an undetected mismatch between the version of GregorioTeX which is installed and the version used to generate the gtex file (the version checking functions we have are designed distinguish between major stable releases and thus don't catch everything, especially if you live on the cutting edge of development). Thus my first recourse is always to delete the gtex file and recompile.

If that doesn't work, then post a MWE which causes the error and the output of running system-setup (.bat on Windows, .command on everything else). You can find the system-setup tool in the contrib folder where Gregorio was installed.
