No, GregorioTeX doesn't calculate this sort of thing automatically. We could not determine a clean way of knowing that a high note occurred in the area occupied by the commentary at the end of the first line. The best we could figure was for any high note on the first line, but it was felt that if the high note occurred early in the line, then the user might want the commentary to ignore said note.

You can also raise the commentary by adjusting the `commentaryraise` dimension using `\grechangedim` (the default is 0). This change will apply to all commentaries from that point forward, but you should be able to group confine the change or change it back later.
