I don't recall if this is the same problem, but I've just begun getting a similar problem:
open a gretl session do some stuff (no problems) save the session click on the X to close gretl gretl closes, but I get the "gretlw32.exe has encountered a problem" dialog. (no problem when doing File\Exit to close) I tried to get some details from the "bug report" that it wanted me to send to Microsoft, but was unsuccessful. I can try that again if it'd be helpful. I don't have the very latest snapshot -- the build date is 3/21/07. As with Talha, I haven't noticed a problem with any of my other Windows programs (at least not lately). I currently using the Windows version because I have Pardus Linux 2007.1 installed on my Linux partition. I really like the stability and ease of use of this distro but they don't currently have the gretl package and looks like compiling gretl on it requires some time and effort, which I cannot afford right now.
