When you want to write a backslash for line-continuation in a gnuplot
script via gretl's "printf" command, you need to double it since backslash
is the escape character. So, for example:

printf "plot \\\n"
printf "'-' using 1:2:3 w filledcurve lt 8, \\\n"

and so on.
