Thanks for your comments, Giuseppe. For now I'll just pick up on one of

I take your point. On a big monitor I generally don't find gretl's 
multiple windows to be a problem, but when I use our classroom projectors 
(1024 x 768) I do, at least some of the time.

I propose to do one quite simple thing about this in the short run 
(leaving open the possibility of doing something more elaborate later). At 
present most gretl windows (apart from transient dialogs) have a "windows" 
icon that pops up a listing of open windows from which you can select one, 
or "arrange" (cascade) the current windows. However, the placement of this 
icon is not consistent. What I plan to do is (a) ensure that all 
non-transient windows have this icon and (b) ensure it is placed 
consistently, at the top right of the window wherever possible (this may 
not work for graph windows but I think that should be the only exception).
