Well, according to your website FAQ Griffith was called after D. W. 
Griffith, a famous movie director. The FAQ also mentions his movie "The 
Birth of a nation". Just read the Wikipedia article:

After the movie was shown in the cinemas the Ku Klus Klan revived.
So, from my point of view, this is a quite critical name for a software.
