Agree.  Also, having consistency among manual pages is nice.
Suboptimal typography should be fixed in the macro package,
so that all manual pages can profit.

One case where distinguishing between nroff and troff might
be expedient is for an alternate display of equations, since
practically no system today provides a usable neqn.
