I thought it would be safe to make it work,
as the current behavior is just outputing an error:

<merror>unknown eqn/troff special char uNNNN</merror>

With patch <20260326044849.13054-2-...@loang.net>
("[eqn]: Use XML character references in MathML output.")
applied, this would instead be:

<mo>&#xNNNN;</mo>
