It's a developer/debugging tool. Most people don't need it, and the  
logging sucks up a *lot* of disk space.

We should switch to using ASL, with a custom facility string. Then  
disk space isn't a problem (syslogd throws away messages after 24  
hours).

Also, Console would become the viewer UI. That's not the problem it  
sounds like: the messages wouldn't show unless you switch to “All log  
messages” or create a custom query that shows them. We could  
distribute such a query in the files area.
