i use quicksilver to monitor my itunes tracks and show them in growl.  
in quicksilver, there is an action to 'show currently playing track',  
which i assigned to a trigger, so now if a song starts playing and i  
wasn't paying attention, i can hit ctrl+alt+c, and it'll post the  
track info up on growl again.
it's not quite the same, as showing the last notification, but works  
for me. you might like to investigate...
