Reinstalled growl. Opened the pref. pane, and the checkbox to have
growl menu displayed was unselected; growl was running. I stopped it.
Close System Preferences, reopened, tried to remove the growl pref.
pane, got: "The "Growl" preferences pan could not be removed because
an error occurred."
