Updating Growl silently in the background is just a different form of 
installing Growl silently in the background.

Moreover, Chrome's updater is not something to emulate. It is one of only a 
couple of updaters (the other one is Adobe's) that I've broken on purpose for 
being too insistent upon updating.

I don't think it does. Maybe Growl for Windows differs from Growl for Mac in 
this regard.

Trying to hide Growl from the people who accuse us of slipping it onto their 
systems behind their backs would not help our case.
