In system preferences when i click on Growl after a few minutes it does seem to start automatically. I usually only use the icon in the menu bar and at that point i have to select "Start Growl". It never used to do that before and not sure why it is doing that now or whether it only started after i had installed Skype 5 which i deleted soon after and reverted back to 2.8.
