I wish he'd talked to us first. It has more problems that he lets on, for instance localization issues. We had a better button planned, but ran out of time to get Growl into the app store before the previous sandboxing deadline with enough room for a 1.3.1 to fix initial issues that people found.
We have at least 2 tickets open on this: http://code.google.com/p/growl/issues/detail?id=319 http://code.google.com/p/growl/issues/detail?id=309 I'll probably close 309 in favor of 319.
