All the happy/satisfied users are sitting at home watching Growl do it's thing; you're only hearing from people who have had problems. I don't have numbers but I'd expect the people with problems are a small minority.
(Note, I'm here due to having problems after the upgrade, but they were easily fixed and I'm now watching growl notices as well as list posts.)
Also, you could always downgrade again if you're not happy with the new version.
