Growl does not work by itself, Growl displays notifications other apps send to it. Therefore, if you want notifications about emails you receive, you need an app that supports Growl to send Growl those notifications. Google Notifier will send notifications for google accounts, but if you want notifications about your @me.com account, you'll need something else. Best bet is probably to make your email client work with Growl. Assuming you are using Mail that comes with OS X, GrowlMail will help you out. Get it from here: http://growl.info/growlmail/ If not, let us know which email client you are using.
