Unfortunately there is a bug in the MailMe plugin in getting the details right in all cases. You might want to look at the third party growl-mail-smtp available here: http://code.google.com/p/growl-mail-smtp/ which uses SMTP details entered directly into it. Growl 2.0 will have a completely rewritten MailMe plugin which moves to the same method, as trying to automatically get details is impossible under sandboxing, and with Apple moving around where those details are stored.
