1. Go to System Preferences -> Users & Groups. Select your user account -> 
Login Items. Make sure that Growl is *not* in the list. (Growl used to use this 
but now uses a system launchdaemon service due to sandboxing.)
2. If it wasn't/that still hasn't fixed it, in Growl preferences try flicking 
the Start Growl at Login switch off and on again once to see if that helps?
