Not that I can find at this time. I have filed an enhancement request against HardwareGrowler.app (where our hardware related monitoring is done) to investigate this for the future. Our initial quick research last night into this indicated the best we can do is poll the printer about its status. This is not an ideal method, and it might not pan out. I filed this as http://code.google.com/p/growl/issues/detail?id=574, and you can flag that to see what we come up with. I don't have any promises as to when, or even if this will wind up making the cut (We have cut planned HWG plugins due to not performing well enough).
