It's very likely that Growl is trying to start twice on login. Growl 2 uses a new method of starting at login from Growl 1.x due to being sandboxed. Growl 1.4 had a transition system which removed our entry in system preferences and started the new system which uses launchd, because we can't remove the old entry when sandboxed. Go in to System Preferences and make sure that Growl/GrowlHelperApp aren't listed there.
