Dropbox I know has an issue if Growl is not running when it starts up
(regardless of version of Growl). Postbox is based on the Mozilla
frameworks, and it might have used an older version that has broken
support or a latest that has removed support (Mozilla has removed all
direct Growl support in Firefox as of 17 or some such), and due to the
nature of how Mozilla put Growl in their framework, its not something
easily fixed by an end user (they ripped our code apart and stuffed it
directly into their libraries instead of linking against it). You
might look and see if it supports some form of scripting on receipt of
message (such as applescript), or possibly unmodified mozilla plugins
(There is a Growl/GNTP plugin for Firefox). I can't remember exactly
what issue people saw with, and how they fixed it for Sparrow, but you
can try an updated Growl.framework, via GrowlVersionDetective
