Hello, so, on the front of dropbox, there are a couple of conditions for Dropbox to work, Growl must be running when dropbox starts, and Dropbox must be set to display notifications. For Firefox and Thunderbird, Mozilla has dropped support for Growl (they never did support it well anyways), however there is a plugin https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/growlgntp/ that should reenable support for talking to Growl.
